G's father was raised in a (very) small southern Louisiana town called Eunice, which was the destination we picked to visit during our long Labor Day weekend. There were so many cool things about our trip. Namely, that I got to spend time with that side of G's family - aunt's, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles, cousins and close family friends.
The food was something else entirely - homemade gumbo, cracklins and boudint - dishes that just aren't the same if you don't experience them among true Cajun company. Then there were the beverages. Whatever law or rule that exists in Florida that doesn't in Louisiana - I am not a fan of it because in Eunice we were able to partake in drive-thru daiquiri shacks. We're talking you drive up like you would McDonalds, order an alcoholic beverage and receive a glorious frozen concoction in a large styrofoam cup and are handed a straw. Yes, it was awesome and yes, we partook many times during our short stay.
On our last full day in LA, G and I got away, just the two of us and drove the hour it takes to get to Lafayette where we ate and did some shopping and just spent time exploring together. These pictures were taken on our drive home during that perfect hour-window when the sun is sinking and the light drowns the world in golds and oranges. By chance, we had taken the back country roads on our way home and G was so sweet as to offer to stop more than once after my squeals of delight at noticing the quaintness of our surroundings. He then was a good sport in being my model for these photos.
Take a look...
